  • Biography:

    Prized for her scholarship in the law, Kathy L. Portnoy has handled domestic matters for a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 executives, small business owners, homemakers, parents and grandparents. She is known throughout the legal community for her ability to advise families during their most vulnerable times.

    Prior to joining Warner, Bates, McGough, McGinnis & Portnoy in June 2013, Kathy practiced at Callner, Portnoy & Garner, a firm which she founded in 2008. She was also a founding member of the firm’s predecessor, Alembik, Fine & Callner, P.A. in 1981.

    Kathy has lectured on a variety of family law topics. Her interest in legal education extends to the classroom, where she serves on the local faculty of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Kathy has also served as a member of the adjunct faculty of the Emory University School of Law, where she taught legal research and writing and authored the Georgia Domestic Relations Case Finder.

    An active member of the arts community, Kathy is a founding board member of the Georgia Shakespeare Festival, a former co-chair of the Community Book Festival, and a past president of the Atlanta Literary Group.  She has also served on the Board of the Learning Disabilities Association of Georgia.

    Kathy received her law degree from the Emory University School of Law, graduating with top honors as a member of the Order of the Coif. While there, she was also a member of the Board of the Emory Law Journal.
